The Red Line Means Quality

The red line found on Canon’s high-end camera lenses is a sign to a photographer that they are getting the very best. This same red line is incorporated into the design of their latest large format photo printer to connect this printer to Canon’s rich heritage in cameras and imagery. Canon introduced the ImagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer late last year. It is a 17” professional printer with an 11-Color plus Chroma Optimizer ink system to appeal to the photographer who is passionate about their photos. Canon wanted a brochure that reflected the quality output of their new printer.

It seemed like an obvious solution to play off the red line of the lenses and how this quality extends to their photo printers. This red line was incorporated subtly throughout the brochure.

Quality Meets Your Obsession

From input to output, Canon provides the best solution for photographers who want control and quality. Canon highlighted specific features and benefits of the ImagePROGRAF PRO-1000. JDA utilized acetate overlays to illustrate some of this technology:

  • Anti-Clogging Technology
  • Air Feeding System
  • Black Density and Dark Shadow Areas
  • Wide Color Gamut
  • No Switching of Black Inks

What Does a Photographer Obsess Over?

The ad campaign for this printer graphically demonstrated how a photographer obsesses over a photograph by using eye-tracking data. The illustration in the brochure shows the photographer made 1,197 eye movements while viewing the detail of his photograph.

How was the Brochure Received?

We were very pleased with the reception of this piece. It also proved there is still value in printed marketing materials. We relied heavily on our print sales rep Craig Maron of Source Rep to make sure we realized our vision. Karen Miller, Senior Marketing Manager at Canon said: “We wanted a brochure that walked the reader through what we wanted them to know in an elegant and engaging manner. JDA nailed this one. We even received a comment from one of our dealers that it is the best piece of marketing collateral he had ever seen.”
